What is EPCIS Event Studio?
A free tool to generate EPCIS 2.0 events. Tell it what you need, get back properly formatted JSON-LD events.
What it's NOT: An event repository, storage system, or production validator. Use it to draft events — you still need to validate them against your actual business rules before deployment.
About EPCIS
EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) is a GS1 standard with roots in the MIT Auto-ID Center's work on RFID and supply chain visibility. First published in 2007, EPCIS was developed by GS1 (the organization behind barcodes and RFID standards) to enable companies to capture and share "what, when, where, why, and how" information about products as they move through the supply chain.
Used worldwide in retail, pharmaceuticals, food safety, logistics, and manufacturing, EPCIS enables traceability, compliance, and operational transparency across organizational boundaries.
EPCIS 2.0 (released September 2022) brought major improvements: JSON-LD as a first-class format alongside XML, a simplified and more flexible event model, native sensor data support, and enhanced digital link capabilities for connecting physical products to digital information.

Limitations to Know
- ⚠ JSON-LD Context Issues May not resolve external vocabularies correctly. Verify your context URIs exist and are accessible.
- ⚠ Complex Nested Structures JSON-LD @context merging can be tricky. Generated output may need manual tweaking.
- ⚠ No Online Storage Events aren't saved online. Export or copy results immediately.
- ⚠ No Industry Validation Helper, not a certified validator. Validate against your rules before production use.
- ⚠ Limited Error Feedback Basic error messages, not detailed JSON-LD debugging.
- ⚠ No Integration Can't connect to repositories or real-time event feeds.
